One-Page Bulge™ 2nd Edition
A new edition of an iconic wargame is being issued to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge – Steve Jackson’s One-Page Bulge™.
Two Hall of Fame game designers, Steve Jackson and Dana Lombardy, have joined forces to present the new edition, One-Page Bulge™ 2 (OPB2).
“One-Page Bulge™ owes its whole existence to a challenge.” – Steve Jackson
Steve was already a respected game designer in 1980 when Moves magazine posited the question, “Would it be possible to get all the rules for a wargame … onto both sides of an 8 1/2” x 11” piece of paper?” Steve’s response was “Sure. Why not?”
The result was a fun, challenging and easy-to-learn game based on solid historical research. Long out of print, it is being updated and reissued by Steve and Dana Lombardy to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. They worked on SJG projects together previously – Fire & Movement issue #31 with the game Kamikaze – and Dana had a cameo appearance in a Car Wars supplement.
One-Page Bulge™ 2 (OPB2) will include state-of-the-art graphics and the high-quality components that Steve and Dana’s fans have come to expect. Sample art, video interviews with Steve and Dana, and more will be posted over the next several weeks before and during the Kickstarter campaign in October.
Update by Dana October 13:
This is still Steve Jackson’s original design from 1980. We are looking at some light editing on the rules such as how/when to use the new random event cards. Mostly cosmetic improvements: larger 3/4-inch die-cut playing pieces (counters), historical identifications on all of the counters, larger hexes, more colors, larger type for the rules so old guys (like me) can read them and the counters more easily.
These won’t change the basic playability of the original game, but (hopefully) enhance the overall appeal of the second edition. In any case, Steve is involved in this edition and nothing gets finalized and printed until he approves it. Oh, and definitely examples of play in a separate folder to help gamers get into the game faster.
